Lake Seliger - Berezovski Ples Photo and comments
 Evdokim Petrov
Ozero Seliger is located in the northwestern part of Tverskaya oblast, Russia. It is really a gem of Russian Valdai highlands. The lake has glacier nature and was created by glacier 10 thousand years ago. The level of its water was higher in 19th century, however it might be temporary feature of the nature. The name of the lake country - Seliger is more likely Finnish-Ugor in its nature. Let's try to give you additional highlights on the lake and encourage you to pay a trip there, especially Summer time:
 1. How to get there. From Moscow, the best and less traffic way in to take Moscow - Riga highway, or direction to Volokolamsk, then keep going toward Rzhev, and in Rzhev turn North toward Selizharovo. You pass Selizharovo and do straight to Ostashkov, which is Seliger region capital
2. Russian Banya. If you are familiar with Finnish sauna, you should love Russian counterpart, Banya (the word itself is probably coming from Latin word banes, also very popular in Turkey, where it is named Hammam . You can order Banya in the villages or in local hotels, the most popular hotels are Hizhina and Vershina Seligera)
3. Water. It is very mild and you can drink it just from the lake - this is what local people say - they drink Seliger water all their life and keep yourself in the healthy mode
