 Kravotin Church Photos and comments

Evdokim Petrov

The legend of this village is really astonish and at the same time terrible. Tatar-Mongol warlords and horsemen surrounded and beheaded Russians and placed their heads on the tin, meaning wooden rods. It is really terrible to imagine now, but back in 13th century this was a way to do things like that and Mongols and all the other nations reportedly didn't know more human way to deal with the prisoners of war

Obviously there is no way now to confirm or decline this old-good-days legend, however Kravotin is kind of harsh place nowadays if you would try to reach it by rowing the boat - Kravotin ples is the most windy and wavy on the Seliger lake (Ozero Seliger)

The church was built in the time of the emperor Paul the first (Pavel I), son of Ekaterine the Great

If you plan to reach Kravotin by dring the car from Moscow - it very simple - you follow the directions to Ostashkov, and before the city limit on you turn right toward Nilova Pustin
