Lake Seliger: Ozero Seliger in Russian Photos - Tverskaya Oblast

Seliger is really a gem of Russian North West, where Tver land borders with the Novgorod Oblast and where such ancient cities as Toropets, Ostashkov, Selizharovo are located. Also Seliger is in essence the place where Volga river upper water spring begins. We are writing this article for foreigners, permanently living in Russia or visiting to orient them if they plan to visit Volgoverkhovie
1. How to get there. You should rent a car and get Moscow - Riga highway till Rzhev, then turn to Selizharovo/Ostashkov in the western district of Rzhev. Rzhev-Selizharovo highway is very picturesque, in fact you will be driving close to upper Volga river, if you would like to see Volga, turn left and stop in one of the villages.
2. Ostashkov is the capital of Seliger krai (Seliger Land). Before hitting Ostashkov pavement you should decide where to stay and what to see on the lake - we recommend you to stop at Hizhina hotel and see such places as Nilova Pustin huge Russian Orthodox Monastery, Nikolo Rozhok, Krovotin, Troitsa Na Perevoloke, if time permits, visit also Zaluchie and Sobenskie Lakes, and of course Volgoverkhovie is the must to see
