Volgoverkhovie: the place where Great Russian River Volga begins in the marsh and small spring photos

Volgoverkhovye means the source or the river or its initial brook or spring. Volga river has its launch in the small village in Tverskaya oblast, which is in fact bordering Novgorod oblast - the name of the village is Volgoverkhovie. We visited this place in November 2007 and took the photo of the house or chapel above the spring and Women Olgin Monastery dome, built in 1912 and restored in 1995
1. How to get there? This is relatively simple, drive Moscow Riga highway toward Volokolamsk, then stay in the same road to Rzhev, and turn right (north) to Selizharovo/Ostashkov. In Ostashkov follow the signs to Volgoverkhovye. Road virtually ends in the place on the photo. Alternative route is through Tver (Moscow St Petersburg highway) and then turn left to Torzhok and then Kuvshinovo and Ostashkov
2. Olgin Monastir Dome style. It is built in 1912 in the common in those days style of Russian renaissance: red brick, painted into dark red color, five heads are very common for the style. It is often considered that Russian renaissance style was initially introduced in the Dome of the Chris the Saver in Moscow, where the architect was Cyril Ton
