Migrating from old Great Plains Dynamics version 6.0 or earlier to GP 10.0

As if this is your ERP upgrade case, we recommend you first to understand Microsoft Business Solutions licensing strategy, meaning that you should be active in MBS annual enhancement program. If your company is not active, then you should undertake the steps to be reenrolled into annual enhancement program, by doing so you will get access to new version installation CD and registration key. Assuming that you are current with MBS and you have your reg key, then you should plan the upgrade path. Let us give some highlights:
1. Steps in version upgrade. If you are on 6.0, the best scenario is first to upgrade to version 7.5. However your case may have nuances, such as if you are on Pervasive SQL or Ctree. If you are on non Microsoft SQL Server platform, you can still move to 7.5 as this is the last version supporting Pervasive SQL 2000 and Ctree.
2. Migration to SQL Server from Btrieve or Ctree DB platforms. You will need your GP partner to download from Microsoft Partnersource Great Plains Migration tool and migration itself should be handled to professional consultant. We do not recommend you to do migration in-house as you will need to know the inside of Great Plains Dynamics 7.5. If you are on version 6.0 - often we see the scenario when you also deploy Intellisol Advanced Purchase Order Processing
3. Upgrading from 7.5 to 10. Please be aware that GP 10.0 OEM CD only supports upgrade from GP 9.0 SP2 and 8.0 SP5. It doesn't support upgrade from GP 9.0 OEM or no SP applied. Version 7.5 is easily and very quickly could be upgraded to 9.0 and we recommend you to follow this route
4. Others scenarios. If you have third party ISV add-ons to GP, you should check what is the version upgrade availability, as it is common practice, when ISV releases the upgrade after six month or GP new version release
5. Customizations. We would like to place modifications into separate paragraph as these are not automatically upgradeable. In order to upgrade GP Dexterity customization, you will need to have your customization source code dictionary with Dex sanscript code in it, then you will need Dexterity developer to review the code and make required upgrade programming
