Great Plains Upgrade technical overview, version 10.0

Microsoft Dynamics GP or former Great Plains Software Dynamics/eEnterprise was designed as Great Plains Dexterity application back in earlier 1990th and currently it has version 10.0, which still has Microsoft Dexterity background. If you are preparing to update GP version to 10.0, please be aware that for version 10 Microsoft Business Solutions made it service pack dependent. This means that you can not just insert GP CD version 10 and follow the wizard. Let's review the upgrade process:
1. In 2007, prior to the date, when GP SP1 was released in November, there were a lot of discussions. Using OEM CD you could only upgrade from GP 9.0 SP2 and 8.0 SP5.
2. GP 10 SP1. With Service Pack you can now upgrade from the majority of builds of version 9.0 and 8.0.
3. New Security Model. In version 10.0 Great Plains Dynamics introduced absolutely new security model, based on security roles. Upgrade path, instead of moving you to new security realm, simply created security roles for each existing user and names them respectively. You can use it as a temporary solution, however it is better to redeploy new security as it was designed
4. Dexterity Customization Upgrade. Here you can use traditional approach simply by deploying GP Dexterity developers, as usual you will need your modification source code - Dynamics.dic with Sanscript code
5. Integration Manager update. In version 10.0, IM has more connectors, based on eConnect runtime. You should do your discovery with eConnect pluses and minuses. Among the pluses you will find astonishing performance, however in some cases you will see that traditional connectors cover more logic for the same object, comparing to eConnect
