Novinki Church Of Peter And Paul 1807-1822 on the Sterzh lake, close to Volgoverkhovie

Ozero Sterzh is the first large Volga river lake and the village of Novinki is located on the northern part of the lake, where Volga virtually inflows into Sterzh. Sterzh means stem or where the brook is coming into the lake. We already published several articles, related to Volgoverkhovie village and Olgin Monastery at the Volga upper waters. Now it is turn for Novinki, also referred as Sterzhenski Pogost. In ancient times on the pogost visiting tradesmen and historical letopis writers were finding so-called Sterzhenski Cress (or Cross, the stone with Russian Novgorod Legends). There were multiple wooden churches on Sterzh Pogost, and finally in the beginning of XIX century the construction of brick one begun
Petropavlovskaya church was osvyaschena in 1822. Architecture Style. Well, if you are familiar with eight sides on four, popular in Ekaterine time, then it is even simplification, where eight sides are directly placed on the church first floor
Current Conditions. They are really very bad and the church is in ruins, however even 20 years ago or saw, I remember myself to visit this place, where church had the kupol or dome intact, now it is destroyed by time and northern Russia heavy climate
