POLICE ARREST MAN FOR KIDNAPPING BOY IN CHURCH
SYLVESTER D.
CHURCHES in Niger Delta region have been advised to be more vigilant as kidnappers have started invading the children wing of churches during Sunday services for kids abduction. Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr. Felix Ogbaudu gave this warning after an arrest of one Sunday Ogbu who allegedly abducted a six years old child, Ndmanze Chinda from the children section of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Port Harcourt on Sunday, April 27
The kidnapper reportedly fled with the boy to Igwuruta from where he later called the father, Mr. Dickson Chinda, a pastor of Amazing Grace Parish of the same church to part with ten million naira for the release of the hostage.
According to the commissioner, the toddler said his kidnapper deceived him that he wanted to buy biscuits for him. And, innocently he followed him. And when he asked to be taken back to his parents the kidnapper refused.
The alleged kidnapper however denied the allegation. According to him, he found the child wandering along Igwuruta road and then took him to his church where he told the pastor that the toddler was his child. He said he was surprised that the police was invited to arrest him. The Commissioner of Police said it was the pastor of the church where he took the child to that later alerted the police when he smelt a rat. He used the occasion to advice churches in the region to evolve security measures in place to protect their children from wicked and callous people like the kidnapper who pretend to be in church to worship God
"Sunday Ogbu is one of those, who gives this state a bad name. He went to a church with a Bible and kidnapped a little boy and later asked the father to pay a ransom of N10 million. He is one of those, who has been involved in the kidnapping of people in the state. Of course, you should be sure that the long arms of the law has caught up with him today", Ogbaudu said.
