Government Launches Job Services Australia

Australia, July 6, 2009 - The Australian Government employment service Job Services Australia was launched July 1, 2009. It represents an investment of over $4.9 billion over the next three years. Designed as simpler, more personalised service, the project aims to meet the employment and recruitment requirements of both job seekers and employers.
It replaces previous employment services like Job Network and seeks to provide new opportunities for Australians to receive one-on-one employment services. It offers access to Job Services Australia providers in over 2,000 towns, cities and rural sites across the country. It is expected to benefit more than 700,000 job seekers.
According to Senator Mark Arbib, Minister for Employment Participation: "The Government is one hundred percent focused on keeping Australians in jobs and maximising employment opportunities." He said that the new approach is a result of consultation and planning with industry, community organizations, providers and users of the Government's employment services.
"The new Job Services Australia offers a simplified, more personalised service to meet the individual needs of the job seeker, which is more important than ever in these tough global conditions," says the senator.
In addition to providing more job opportunities, the service also hopes to offer training and skills development. "There is no doubt that unemployment will continue to rise in the next year as a result of the global economic downturn; that is why the Government has ensured that people who lose their jobs will now receive immediate and improved assistance with finding a new job," says Arbib.
