Mitch Knapp was recently featured in an April issue of New Jersey Monthly, discussing his knowledge of koi ponds and how they act as focal points in backyards. Ron and Joyce Heller of Tenafly praise Mitch Knapp and Scenic Landscaping for allowing them to feel as if they are a part of nature with the construction of their very own koi pond. Knapp designed the pond to have cascading waterfalls adjoining their patio, flowing into the pond and an additional waterfall flowing into their spa. In the article, Knapp displays that not only is he a master of landscaping, but he knows what he is talking about when it comes to the functionality of any design. He warns that if you want koi fish in your pond you need to be aware of several things. He says the pond should be 36 to 42 inches deep to go below the frost line so that the fish can hibernate at the bottom of the pond in winter. He also put up thin nets over the Heller's pond to prevent the fish from being preyed on by herons. He surrounded their pond with plants that do well in a lot of moisture, such as lilies lotus, cattails, and forget-me-nots.
