These asylum seekers include a group of 89 Iraqis, Sri Lankans, Afghans and Iranians. These people have been said to be transferred Christmas Island to Villawood Immigration Detention Centre in Sydney on Saturday after the announcement made by the federal oppositions.
From the statement of the Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison that having these asylum seekers to the mainland Australian might be unsafe because it might open new legal avenues. The person who represents the 7 Sri Lankans is the Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre solicitor David Manne that according to him stills reviewing the said case even though they are already move in the Australian mainland. "The legal framework was designed to essentially say that if you first come to an excised part of Australia like Christmas Island& then that's the legal situation that you stay in for the duration of your processing," he said.
However the Immigration Minister Chris Evans said the cast off asylum seekers' status would stick.
